Patients’ perception of gustatory changes after lower molar extractions

Introduction and Aim: Gustatory changes in the form of loss taste or alteration lingual paresthesia are often encountered post-extraction molar teeth. The aim this study was to assess patients' perception gustatory changes/taste alterations following lower extractions female patients attending OPD (dentistry-clinics) at College Dentistry, King Khalid University, Abha, Saudi Arabia. Materials Methods: Thirty consecutive new adult indicated for extraction due grossly decayed mandibular molars between age 19-45 were included study. These evaluated using a self-administered interview tactile function impairments immediately after surgical procedures/extraction involving region. They re-evaluated seven days one month procedure. ANOVA repeated measures used statistical difference patient responses baseline (before procedure), days, Tukey HSD post hoc multiple comparisons made find group that is significantly different from others. Results: There no statistically significant differences baseline, procedure concerning all questions asked except Q2 Q7 dealt with presence tingling sensation on tongue ability continue their usual diet dental procedure, respectively. Conclusion: only transient change small proportion molars, which self-limiting resolved by postoperatively.
